“Musical Structures“ by Etienne Favre

For the third consecutive year, Etienne Favre is preparing us a joyful exposition, to experiment with the whole body. This universe of sonorous and playful machines, laid outdoor near the children playground, creates a very particular atmosphere. These giant instruments were all handmade by their creator, all from used material found here and there like bicycle wheels, rubber boots or even old saucepans…

Les Structures Musicales allows the public to enter a fantastic and imposing universe where everything is music and harmony. One can observe the public, casually walking around, trying the instruments curiously, children and parents alike. Very few stay insensitive to the poetry and fantasy of this animation.

The exposition features numerous sonorous exploitations, among which the sounds induced by the circular movement of wheels, chimes, flutes, hoops full of seeds. Some more pedagogic instruments like “the Giant Stave” or “the Grand Lyre”, or also some more melodic instruments like harps, carillons. Some of the instruments have a very funny conception and know a lot of success, for instance: “the Flute Gloves”, “the Brooms Wheel”, “the Guitar Bicycle”, or “the Saucepan Tree” and many others delighting devices…

Everything is permitted in this universe, and it is not rare, when looking at the public, to notice people casually testing, improvising melodies, creating sonorous atmospheres.

These outdoor installations are provided for a free, unlimited access! We therefore ask the parents to watch out for their children, who often get a bit carried away with their enthusiasm while playing with the structures. The public is generally very spontaneous and always finds out by itself how the structures work.

Les Structures Musicales will be featured every day of the Paris Jazz Festival, near the children playground, from the opening of the Parc Floral untill closing time.
